Top Playgrounds in and Around Kent

The worst of the winter may have been and gone but this gorgeous spring-like weather is great for getting the kids out of the house at the weekend and finishing half term on a high note!

If you are stuck for things to do, why not venture to one of Kent’s many playgrounds which offer hours of outdoor fun. We have taken a look at our top five play zones for the little ones, in and around Kent for you to try out this season.

Toddlers Cove Canterbury

Featuring gentle exercise equipment and picturesque views for adults as well as lots of things for kids to run over, swing on, slide down and play with – Toddlers cove in Canterbury is great for the whole family.

How do we know kids will love it? Because it was designed by kids! St.Peter’s Methodist Primary School children designed this play area which opened in the summer of 2014.

There are plenty for places for adults to sit and ensure kids are safe right next to the slow running river which features amazingly white swans who will surely come to say hello. This is one of our favourite places for a relaxing walk or family picnic.

The Hop Farm

The Hop Farm located in Paddock Wood, is a breath of fresh air when it comes to a stunning location with lots to entertain the children.

The iconic and historic landmark has a family park located on the farm and is packed full of attractions for both children and adults.

The fun zone includes giant jumping pillows that act like trampolines, bumper cars, a magic castle, driving school, magic shows, discos, children’s rides and an outdoor adventure play area. On top of all that, the farm plays host to some very friendly animals including donkeys, horses, sheep, llamas, mini-cows, rabbits, reptiles and birds – there’s something for everyone at The Hop Farm!

Lower Leas Coastal Park

Lower Leas Coastal Park is a large park located between Folkestone and Sandgate with a fantastic fun zone in the centre. It’s completely free to visit and you can enjoy fish and chips on the beachfront!

It’s one of the largest play areas in the South East and is a hit with children of all ages. The play area has a unique Amphitheatre design for all to enjoy and a wild zone where everyone welcomes the wildlife to enjoy their natural habitat as well as the children.

There is a picnic area complete with plenty of furniture to go around and if you fancy a BBQ, take advantage of the tables fitted with stainless steel BBQ plates to cook up a feast for all the family!

Hever Castle

A historic venue located in Kent with not one but three play areas for children of all ages.

The Acorn Dell is the newest to the Castle grounds and is a completely natural play area surrounded by grass, ferns and lavender, designed to create a naturally fun haven for children to play and have fun. There are giant sandpits, grassy mounds, tunnels, a climbing frame, a slide and a 2-metre high living willow structure.

The Tudor Towers Adventure Playground is a huge nine-metre tall wooden play castle with a moat that the kids will love! There are three towers complete with fireman’s poles, a hidden tunnel and of course a secret dungeon! Children can experience what is like to be under battle with battle noises to make it as lifelike as possible.

And if that’s not enough, there is a traditional playground for children up to the age of 14 with an array of climbing frames, rocking horses, an aerial runway and swings including a fun pod swing which invites adults to join in the fun!

Mote Park – one for next year!

Based in Maidstone in Kent, Mote park is shaping up to be a great place for a fun family day out, with Maidstone council investing £4.3million in ramping up park facilities in the next 3 years.

Set on the backdrop of 450 acres of beautiful fields, lakes and woodland, the ‘free to access’ park will soon feature a new skate park, play area and jungle gym. In 2019, we can expect some great features for younger children as well as thrill seekers including exciting high ropes, a challenging climbing wall, a Segway experience and everyone’s favourite – mini golf!

The park is already well known for its iconic ‘swans on the lake’ paddle boats and extensive cycle routes, so there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy at this beautiful park this year whilst the work is being carried out on the new facilities.

Whilst the play area is closed from August 2018, all works are scheduled to be completed by March 2019 – just in time for the Easter holidays!
