Our stile free routes are suitable for a wide range of users including those in all-terrain powered mobility scooters and families with younger children. At Explore Kent, we aim to provide detailed information about our routes to give you a clear idea of what to expect. Please be mindful that our stile free routes are located in the countryside and the path surfaces can be adversely affected by poor weather conditions. Certain routes may be better suited for wheelchairs with wider wheels, as they can handle the terrain more easily compared to other wheelchairs. We encourage you to read about the trails, and to assess them if you feel confident in completing them yourself.

If you would like more information on accessibility, please email explorekent@kent.gov.uk

Route information:

There are four designated parking spaces and two disabled spaces near the café . Their premises also provide changing and toilet facilities. There are wheelchair accessible footpaths throughout the lakes, the footpaths are generally flat, with slight inclines around the Ocean Lake. They have also installed multiple wheelchair-friendly picnic tables, complete with concrete pads and ramps.
To ensure easier access, Leybourne Lakes have a low-level servery desk and a ramp leading into the café building. You’ll find accessible notice boards, maps, and leaflets conveniently located along hard-surfaced paths. For more detailed information, visit their website here.

Step by step guide

From the car park walk to the left hand side of the ranger's office to find the start of the walk. Follow the footpath from here to reach the lake. At the lake follow path along the shoreline with the lake on your right until you reach a forked junction.

At the forked junction, follow the path right and continue ahead with the lake to your immediate right.

Take the next junction to the left on the path between the two lakes and continue ahead until you reach the junction (with an exit to Tesco to the left).

At the junction continue onwards for some time keeping the lake immediately to your right. Ignoring all other paths to return back to the visitor centre - you are now at the end of the walk and can retrace your way back to the car park.
