Darland Banks is a local nature reserve of approximately 45 hectares of chalk grassland, scrub and woodland on steep scarp slopes. It is home to many rare butterflies, plants and a small herd of rare breed cattle. Access through kissing gates leads to a network of informal footpaths across the steeply sloping hillside. The views are breathtaking on a clear day and the scarp slopes are the perfect place for a brisk walk. At the bottom of the slopes is an area of woodland. The reserve also extends to the other side of Star Lane –a traffic free lane that runs south from Darland Banks.

Easy access information

This park and open space contains uneven trails, un-surfaced or narrow pathways. Also, there are width restricting features, such as stiles and narrow gaps making it difficult for visitors with pushchairs and/or wheelchairs to access some parts of the site.
