We’re excited to introduce a new Active Travel map designed to encourage Darent Valley Hospital staff and visitors to walk, wheel, or cycle. This map was developed in collaboration with Kent County Council and Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust to support healthier, greener travel choices.

The map highlights how far you can travel in 15 to 30 minutes by walking or cycling to and from Darent Valley Hospital. With thousands of staff working at the hospital and nearby attractions like Bluewater Shopping Centre and Darenth Country Park, local roads can become congested—especially during peak hours. We hope this map inspires more people to choose active travel for their journeys.

Darent Valley Hospital is centrally placed on the map, with clear routes to nearby train stations, public footpaths, National Cycle Route 1, and Fastrack bus services. It also shows cycle storage locations, crossings, and traffic-free paths to make planning your journey easier.

Dartford offers a mix of green spaces, riverside paths, and urban amenities. Whether you’re commuting or visiting, bringing your bike or walking part of the way is a great way to enjoy the area while reducing your carbon footprint.

Try out Active Travel…

Use the network of signed cycle routes and traffic-free paths to beat the traffic and improve your wellbeing. Plan your journey using the Kent Connected app, and remember you can take your bike on Southeastern trains outside peak hours—or bring a fold-up bike anytime.

Get to the heart of Dartford using National Cycle Route 1, and take advantage of cycle parking facilities to explore local shops, parks, and cafés. You don’t need to be a cycling expert—just follow the blue route signs and enjoy the ride.
