Thanks to funding from the Southeastern Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF), Explore Kent teamed up with local partners to connect the community of Gravesham with the beauty of the King Charles III England Coast Path (KCIIIECP).

From Rail to Trail: New Maps at Gravesend and Northfleet Stations

Large, eye-catching maps have been installed at Gravesend and Northfleet stations, guiding rail passengers from the train station to the coast path. These maps also highlight other stunning sections of the KCIIIECP across Kent that can be reached via Southeastern trains, making it easier than ever to plan a scenic day out.

A Community Events Programme For All

The Southeastern funding also supported a vibrant programme of events designed to engage diverse groups across Gravesham. Here are some highlights:

Weekly Park Fitness at Gravesend Promenade

Organised by Gravesham Borough Council and GCLL Active Now, these sessions mixed fitness with making friends. With stunning riverside views, participants enjoyed group workouts that were all about feeling good and getting outdoors.

Mindful Birdwatching Walks with Kent Wildlife Trust

Two mindful birdwatching walks at Swanscombe and Botany Bay gave people a chance to slow down and reconnect with nature. They were especially helpful for anyone dealing with mental health challenges or feeling isolated. Some joined a longer 6-week programme, while others swapped contact details to meet up for future walks.

Women’s Wellness Walks with MJ Outdoors

MJ Outdoors led two women’s wellness walk, tailored for women seeking a supportive environment to unwind, reflect and prioritise their wellbeing. One was a 7-mile circular route from Higham station to the wild marshes, stopping for lunch at the historic Shornemead Fort. The other followed a sunny 4-mile stretch from Northfleet to Greenhithe, featuring riverside views, a hidden beach and lots of industrial heritage along the way.

Northfleet and Gravesend Guided History Tours

Led by a local historian and organised by Gravesend Borough Council, these eight walks uncovered the rich heritage of the area, encouraging residents to explore their local history while enjoying the coast path.

Asian Single Parents Network Coastal Path Family Walk

The network hosted a scenic family walk ending with tea, cake, and a visit to the stunning Gravesend Gurdwara. 22 people attended, creating lasting memories and new friendships.

Activity Trail by Sports4Change CIC

Young people from Gravesend helped design a family-friendly activity trail along the coast path. Through workshops and creative collaboration, they developed trail maps, games, and challenges that families can now enjoy.

The Grand Healthy Living Centre

As part of their 12-week English classes, The Grand took learners on a coast path walk from Northfleet to Gravesend, helping them navigate train travel and enjoy the outdoors while practicing their language skills.

A Path for Everyone

Whether you’re seeking solitude, social connection, fitness, or fun, the KCIIIECP offers something for everyone. This national walking route will eventually trace the entire coastline of England – making it the longest managed coastal path in the world. In Gravesham, the path offers a rich variety of landscapes and experiences.
