Stories of Belonging in Medway

This relaxed, hands-on creative workshop invites people of all ages to explore and celebrate the diverse cultural identities that shape Medway. Participants are encouraged to reflect on personal memories, migration journeys, and traditions that connect them to the area.
Using colourful transparent materials, attendees can draw or write their own story and add it to a large illustrated map of Medway. As contributions build throughout the session, the map becomes a vibrant, collective artwork representing the community’s shared identity.
The workshop is part of the national Heritage Open Days festival and is open to everyone—whether long-term residents or those new to Medway. It provides a welcoming space to connect, reflect, and celebrate belonging.
The session is hosted by Talking Art Studio and led by local artist and community counsellor Roya Royle, who has experience working with families, young people, and migrant communities.
All materials are provided, and no prior experience is needed. Families and children are especially welcome to take part.
