Rochester Esplanade has easy access entrances with no steps. Facilities in the general area include pay and display parking along the Esplanade with some free parking adjacent to Churchfields.
As you enter the gardens from the North entrance, closest to the main bus routes through Medway, you will find the local information board and a restored cannon.
Nearby, the old entrance to Rochester pier has been given a long term plan of being repaired starting in late 2023.
As you walk along the rivers edge, you are treated to the best feature, the 360-degree views including Rochester Castle and Rochester Bridge. The evenings here do boast the most amazing sunset as you look west, upriver away from the bridge.
The Esplanade also has a gated children’s play area containing picnic tables, climbing frame, swings and see-saw.
There is also an outdoor gym located within the Esplanade.
The largest part of the Esplanade hosts a beautiful green area with a number of flat areas to sit and relax and enjoy the greenery surrounding you.
The Friends of Rochester Churchfields & Esplanade (FoRCE) are a volunteer group who were inaugurated in January 2020. Their aim involves helping to protect, promote, conserve and enhance the green space and river walks for the enjoyment and well-being of local residents, the wider community and visitors.
