For years Margate’s Main Sands have been an iconic British seaside destination and with its sweep of golden sandy beach and beachside restaurants and bars, it’s easy to see why this beautiful resort is as popular as ever.
JMW Turner was certainly a fan, stating that Margate has “the loveliest skies in all of Europe”, and a trip to the striking Turner Contemporary will soon have you singing his praises as well. Check out the 4 mile Turner and Dickens walk and you’ll have the chance to discover more about Turner’s Margate and Dickens’ Broadstairs.
The beach itself is of course home to plenty of traditional seaside fun, with amusement arcades, surfing and children’s rides. When the sun goes down you’ll find a selection of restaurants to sit and stare out at those stunning views.
