Folkestone Circular Walk
Overview:
Discover the very best of Folkestone on this inclusive 3.4 mile (5.5km) route, tested by Wild With Wheels CIC. Suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, this walk blends seaside charm, creative culture and one of Kent’s most beautiful coastal parks.
The walk begins in the heart of Folkestone’s Creative Quarter, where colourful studios, independent shops and public art set the tone for an inspiring day out. From here, the route leads you gently downhill towards the harbour, opening up to sweeping sea views.
Follow the Coast to Lower Leas Coastal Park
The walk continues along the shoreline before guiding you into the award-winning Lower Leas Coastal Park. Formed in 1784 after a landslip created new land between the cliffs and the beach, the park is now recognised with a Green Flag for being one of the best green spaces in the country.
Lower Leas is divided into zones, each offering something different:
- Fun Zone – Home to the largest free play area in the South East, the zig-zag path and the much-loved Amphitheatre .
- Wild Zone – A peaceful haven with a rare under-cliff microclimate, attracting You’ll also find the Mermaid Café near the promenade for refreshments, and throughout the summer the park comes alive with free events including storytelling, live music, guided walks and participatory art.
The park is open at all times, with lighting, CCTV and warden patrols during office hours to help keep visitors safe. National Cycle Route 2 runs nearby, and cyclists are asked to dismount through the play area during busy periods.
