The Meads Community Woodland
The Meads Community Woodland is a welcome area of planted woodland on the outskirts of Sittingbourne, offering a chance to enjoy woodland walks, relax and watch wildlife.
There is a good mix of native trees, with some traditional features including an old hedgerow and shelter belt of tall poplars. Common wildlife here includes many species of native birds, butterflies, dragonflies and reptiles.
The area surrounding the woodland has huge heritage significance, with finds including an extensive anglo-saxon cemetery and even a Neolithic wood henge! The Woodland Wildlife Hidden History project has been working to celebrate this and the natural heritage of the area. Volunteers constructed a replica henge at the site in 2017, it’s well worth a visit to discover the individually carved and decorated henges which are set out in the same way as the original neolithic henge.
