Afternoon to Allington

After lunch take on the remainder of the River Medway Trail from Hempsted Lock to Allington Lock, a approx 9.5 miles left to paddle. This part of the trail becomes more interesting as you paddle under stone arched bridges at Teston Country Park, a beautiful country park ideal for picnics (a great alternative for a lunch stop). Past Teston the river becomes wilder with a mosaic of orchards, gardens and woodlands running alongside the river. Pass East Farleigh, a quaint village and enter Maidstone town centre and pass by historical sites of interest like the Archbishops Palace. End your day at Allington Lock, where you can disembark the river on the slipway and enjoy a cold or hot drink from The Little Tollhouse cafe.

Travel

Arrange a pick up from Allington Lock (The Malta Inn pub offers car parking for quick pick ups).

Alternatively pick the first or second half of the section and paddle there and back. Either Tonbridge to Yalding return or Yalding to Allington return (both of which can be done in reverse if desired but would mean going again the river flow).
