The Orchard

Yalding Fen is a community orchard with around a dozen different varieties of apple. The community celebrate its fruitfulness in September with a picnic and apple fest. They collect the fruit, press them on site and bottle as their own Yalding Fen Apple Juice available in the village.

This old orchard and its system of connected ponds and waterways is an important habitat for many of the UK’s reptiles, amphibians and birds. The old fruit trees provide homes for wild honey bees as well as a community orchard.

Hebredian sheep and cattle graze the orchard during the year, often overwintering under the trees.
