Western Heights Open Weekend – Day 1
Experience what it was like in napoleonic and world war times with live skirmishes, stalls of replica memorabilia and much more.
- 10:00am - 17:00pm
- £5
- Dover
The Drop Redoubt and Grand Shaft will be open to the public. Napoleonic and Second World War re-enactors will be carrying out skirmishes, parades, drills and demonstrations throughout the weekend. There will also be a Napoleonic camp showing what life was like for an early nineteenth century soldier. In addition there will be various other stalls and displays including one from White Cliffs Countryside Partnership.
We do recommend sturdy footwear as there are many stairs and uneven surfaces throughout. As a result, it is unfortunately unsuitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. Please note there will be firing and loud bangs (dogs) although ear plugs for children and adults are provided.
For more information see the Dover Western Heights website or Dover Tourist Information Centre (01304 201066).
CHARGE: For entry to Drop Redoubt – £5 adults, accompanied children free. Entrance to the Grand Shaft is free.
LEADER: Western Heights Preservation Society.
MEET: Drop Redoubt Road, Western Heights, Dover, CT17 9AP (TR 317 409). Walk to the site following the signs from the town, use the Grand Shaft staircase (Snargate Street) or parking on the sports field on Citadel Road.
