The Franciscan Gardens and Eastbridge Hospital
Enjoy this historic oasis in the city centre of Canterbury, next to the river Stour, and gain an insight into medieval horticulture with talks and tours as part of the Kent Pilgrims' Festival.

The Franciscan Gardens and, Eastbridge Hospital will be taking part in the Pilgrims Festival on 24th & 25th September. The tickets are day tickets and, include specialist tours and talks of:
- Talks on medieval plants grown
- Talks on medieval medical treatments
- Tours of both sites
The Franciscan Gardens is the perfect spot to relax and take time for contemplation during the festival. The site was originally used for a Franciscan Friary and was recently replanted. Discover the symbolism of planting peaceful paths and the beautiful Greyfriars Chapel and take a reflective journey through the garden which reinterprets the former monastic way of life and successive horticultural legacies. The Eastbridge (or the Hospital of St. Thomas the Martyr, Eastbridge) has welcomed visitors since the first pilgrims came in 1190. Explore the ancient buildings, learn about our history and how we still play a part in our community for hospitality today.
