NORTH DOWNS WAY – Part 2 – SHEPHERDSWELL TO CANTERBURY
This two-day walk on the section of the North Downs Way from Canterbury to Dover will give the participants an opportunity to experience a historic journey. Day one starts the walk at the official plaque of the NDW on the seafront in Dover, there will be a short visit of some of Dover’s historic sites.
After some light refreshment, we will begin the climb out of Dover into the Kentish countryside. We will stop at Whitfield church for lunch (please bring a packed lunch). The route will take us along a Roman road, through the lovely Waldershare estate and village of Coldred up to Shepherdswell village, where the walk will conclude for the day. Simple accommodation will be provided by St. Andrews church (see booking page for more details). A communal meal will be served that evening.
Day two we will start by visiting the churches of Womenswold and Patrixbourne for a short talk on their history and architecture on the way to Canterbury. Arriving early afternoon in Canterbury (est. 1pm), we shall stop at each of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of St. Martin’s Church, St. Augstine’s Abbey and finally, Canterbury Cathedral where the walk shall conclude.
CHARGE: £50 for the two days including all entrance fees to sites, accommodation in Shepherdswell, communal meal (not including drinks), refreshments at the churches.

GRADE: 5 (long walk).
Not suitable for under 18s. Anyone staying overnight cannot bring dogs.
