Get Back to the Bike – Thanet Coast

The ride explores the Thanet coast from Margate’s iconic Turner Centre, then along the Viking Trail through coast and open country. Ride for Fun, Fitness or simply the Smug Satisfaction of avoiding queues and parking fees!

We will also look at some simple tips on how to ride confidently in traffic and share the road with other road users. Our secret weapon is the smile!

A small number of bikes will be available to borrow on the day should bikes prove un-roadworthy or a poor fit. Helmets are also available. The ride leaders/mobile mechanics’ workshop will be available over lunch for repairs and information.

LEADER: Sarah Eaton- Brown, Liz Humpage and the Cycling Age team; all government registered Bikeability Instructors and all over 50.

MEET: Hartsdown Leisure Centre Car Park, Hartsdown Road, Margate, CT9 3QY. All meeting points have refreshments, toilets and affordable if not completely free parking.

DISTANCE: Total “event” time of approx 2 hours but this will include bicycle checks, helmet fitting, how to prepare for a ride, route planning and possibilities in Kent for independent riders, clubs/organised rides, using off road/traffic free cycle routes and an introduction to the road. Rides will be 8 to 10 miles with an anticipated 1 hour of saddle time.
