King Charles III England Coastal Path – Isle of Sheppey Walk
Group Guided Walk

Overview:
Join us as we mark the opening of a brand-new section of the King Charles III England Coast Path on the Isle of Sheppey. This peaceful 9-mile circular route begins in Leysdown-on-Sea and takes in shingle beaches, a bird sanctuary, remote marshlands, a historic church, and sweeping views across The Swale.
Route Details:
Starting near Leysdown Coastal Country Park, this coastal walk will take us along a quiet promenade and shingle shore, with sweeping views across The Swale as we head toward the tiny hamlet of Shellness—once a hotspot for smugglers. From there, we will enter the Harty Marshes, an RSPB bird reserve known for its incredible birdlife. The walk then takes us through open pastures and grazing land to the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, often described as the most remote church in Kent. This remote spot offers beautiful estuary views, intriguing stained glass, and even jars of local honey for sale.
We’ll continue on past the ruins of Sayes Court before picking up the Isle of Harty Trail—a peaceful track lined with wildflowers and wide views of farmland and estuary. Our final stop is Muswell Manor, home to a statue celebrating the Short Brothers, the aviation pioneers who once built aircraft here on Sheppey.
It’s a peaceful gentle paced route for nature lovers, history buffs, and anyone seeking to explore this little-known corner of coastal Kent.
