HYTHE FESTIVAL
Saturday 7 July to Sunday 15 July 2018
Hythe is one of the famous historic Cinque Ports. Its impressive historic Parish Church, St. Leonard’s, famous for its ossuary, and old houses in the narrow hilly streets above the town, contrast with the spacious promenade overlooking the vast expanse of safe bathing and fishing beaches.
The festival opens in traditional fashion with the Grand Parade down Hythe High Street. The parade finishes at Hythe Green where 2 days of entertainment begin. There will be a central stage which will host a range of music, dance, poetry and theatre.
The wealth of attractions surrounding the Green, range from storytelling, to sideshows, to Punch and Judy, all accompanied by the widest variety of culinary and drinking choices. On Saturday, on the side stage there will be a comedic performance of ‘Too Many Cooks’, from ‘Applause Outdoors’. Sunday sees a fascinating attraction, billed as ‘Playground of Illusions’.
The festival continues with special events at St Leonard’s Church, historical talks and walks, cinema screenings, art and flower shows, music and drama, an art trail (with 40 plus artists and community art groups taking part) and garden safari, to name but a few. The final weekend will stage our eagerly awaited canal bank concert with fireworks.
