A 15.5-mile (25km) walk from Hollingbourne to Wye
As part of the Kent Pilgrims’ Festival there is a series of five one-day guided walks which link together to form a pilgrimage from Aylesford to Dover. They are suitable for people of any faith, or none. Participants can book onto as many or few as they choose.
This is the second walk, starting from Hollingbourne. We see the 14th-century church as we pass through the village and up onto the trackway at the base of the chalk escarpment of the North Downs which is known as the Pilgrims Way. We follow this for most of our route, passing above the villages of Harrietsham and Lenham and into Charing where there are the remains of an 13th Century Archbishop’s Palace. Picking up the Pilgrims Way track again we follow it until it turns north towards Canterbury, but we continue on through fields and orchards and down into Wye
This is a gently undulating route, mostly on firm ground, flint/gravel and some made road. Suitable for walkers used to covering a challenging distance.
Distance 15.5 miles, 25km
This walk links to the Wye to Chilham walk the following day.
What to bring
Hiking boots or sturdy footwear, packed lunch, snacks and water. Come prepared for whatever the forecast suggests, but remember this is England and conditions can be variable.
