The Greensand Way 2025

Overview:

The Greensand Way is a scenic 108-mile (174 km) long-distance trail stretching from Haslemere in Surrey to Hamstreet in Kent, following the Greensand Ridge. We will enjoy panoramic views, explore picturesque villages, and pass through historic sites such as Knole Park and Leeds Castle. The route includes several areas of outstanding natural beauty and seven trig points to bag along the way. With varied landscapes, from ancient woodlands, rolling hills, open fields, villages and riversides , it’s a great mini challenge to try and complete over the course of 2025. You will experience the beauty of Surrey and Kent across different seasons as we complete the trail with 1 date per month.

The Greensand Way is named after the Greensand Ridge, a long, narrow band of sandstone that runs through parts of Surrey and Kent. This sandstone is rich in the mineral glauconite, which gives it a distinctive greenish hue, hence the name “Greensand.”

Route Details:

Stage 7:

Starting in Ide Hill, the Greensand Way takes us through one of the highest points in Kent, offering fantastic views across the Weald.

Further along, the trail takes us into the heart of the Sevenoaks Weald, a mix of woodland and open fields. As we walk through this quiet, rural landscape, you’ll see orchards and farmland, with the Kent countryside in full summer bloom. Occasional gaps in the trees provide panoramic views over the surrounding hills and valleys.

A highlight of The Greensand Way is Knole Park and House which is home to over 400 deer and managed by The National Trust.  We then continue on to Ightham Mote, a 14th-century moated manor house.

The final stretch of the walk leads us through peaceful woodland and open countryside, offering views of rolling hills, before arriving at the village of Shipbourne. The village green, dominated by the beautiful St. Giles Church, is where we will end stage 7 of The Greensand Way.
