From 1 July to 29 October we’ll be celebrating portraits, paintings and picture frames at Knole, and you can explore the showrooms using the new picture frames guide or the children’s spotter trail.

John Frederick Sackville, 3rd Duke of Dorset, did more than any other Sackville to shape the painting collection at Knole. His tastes and interests are strongly reflected in the pictures that hang in the showrooms today, and he was a great friend of Joshua Reynolds. In the Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio you can watch the conservators at work on Reynolds’ impressive full-length portrait of The Hon. Theresa Robinson, Mrs John Parker (1744/5-1775), which can usually be found at Saltram in Devon.

Be inspired to recreate your own Reynolds self-portrait with clothes to dress up in and a frame to surround your scene ready for a photo. View Knole in a whole new way through frames big and small with a frames and paintings themed trail in the parkland.
