Explore the world of European beavers in the UK and put into practice what you have learned in an outdoor beaver survey.
About the event
The aim of this course is to give an introduction to beavers and surveys methods in a workshop presentation format.
The morning of this workshop will be spent exploring the world of European beavers in the UK. You will learn about beaver ecology, their field signs, how to survey them and how to get involved in the Kent Beaver Citizen Science Programme.
After lunch, there will be an outdoor beaver survey training in Fordwich to practise the skills you have learnt in the morning.
We will be driving from the community centre to Fordwich, and then doing a two hour walk to practice the skills learnt in the morning session. If you need a lift between the two sites, we will have a car sharing option.
By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:
- Identify beavers from other British mammals
- Understand beaver ecology
- Find and identify beaver field signs
- Understand beaver survey methods
- Record beaver field surveys
Participants will be able to join the Kent Beaver Citizen Science Programme. These workshops are run in collaboration with the beaver trust.
Suitable for beginners and improvers. Please note that only adults aged 18 and over can now attend our Study Days. This is for safeguarding and insurance reasons.
Led by Amy Fitzmaurice, Beaver project manager at Kent Wildlife Trust.
