We’ll mark the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, on 20th June with a stroll through the picturesque Kent countryside, passing by Neolithic sites along the route.

The summer solstice dates back to the Neolithic era where numerous ancient monuments across Europe, as well as regions in the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas, are strategically aligned with the sunrise or sunset during this celestial event. Our journey begins in Aylesford, winding through farmland and fields until we reach Little Kits Coty and Kits Coty. These ancient sites, dating back to around 4000 BCE, represent the early Neolithic period in British history. After a refreshing break at Kits Coty House, we’ll return to Aylesford, cherishing the beauty and history of our surroundings.

We will be meeting at the Aylesford Bailey Bridge Car Park, Forstal Road, Aylesford, ME20 7AU at 18:15 for a 18:30 prompt start. **Car Parking Charges not included. **

The walk will take approximately 3 hours, will include a stop and will cost £5 per person. The walk will leave on time. However, if you are running slightly late please call us to let us know (you will find our number on the booking confirmation if booked through the website, or message Ian Henderson through Meetup).
