Immerse yourself in a Tudor Christmas with sights and sounds inspired by festivities from Ightham’s historic past. There will be traditional carols in the courtyard, cosy late-night openings and workshops.
Explore the rich history of the 700-year-old moated manor, decorated for a Tudor Christmas. The roaring fire in the Great Hall will transport you back to the times of Henry VIII and his descendants. Meanwhile the stunning hand-painted Tudor Chapel will be fully adorned for a festive Tudor mass.
Experience the true magic of twinkling lights, flickering candles and greenery from the garden at cosy late-night openings. Festive songs from centuries past will ring true to the Mote’s historic setting. Historical musicians GreenMatthews will be roaming the Mote playing Tudor songs, tunes and carols played a on variety of weird and wonderful instruments to get you into the Christmas spirit – 16th-century style! Local groups and choirs will also perform traditional carols in the courtyard throughout the season.
There’s a chance to go behind-the-scenes for a ‘Taste of Tudor Christmas’; a festive dive into the fascinating world of the Tudor household preparing for Christmas. Families can have fun discovering the traditions and customs of Christmases long ago including Tudor table manners and cooking demonstrations.
On select dates there will be a chance to meet local makers and taste some of the goodies available in Ightham Mote’s beautiful new visitor centre shop. Choose a gift for someone special or treat yourself to an early Christmas present.
