If the thought of another expensive Mother’s Day is looming, filled with lacklustre food and a crowded restaurant, think again! It’s a great time of year to head out into the great outdoors; not only will all that fresh air liven your senses, the whole day will cost a fraction of a meal out and you’ll arrive back home with happy vibes and, most importantly, happy mums!
There are so many good reasons to suggest a day outdoors with Mum; firstly, it’s great for improving mental health and well-being. If Mum spends most of her time doing the same routine every day, she will really appreciate going outdoors for a mental boost. We have some fabulous short and longer walks all over Kent for an enjoyable day out, some are buggy and toddler friendly and many include a lovely pub or tea room on the route so you can stop for some well-earned refreshments too. All mums deserve a slice of cake and a cuppa on Mother’s Day!
If Mum cares about the environment, her special day is the perfect chance to make a meaningful contribution to the planet. Whether her passion is saying no to single use plastic or to enhance the environment by taking part in a local volunteering project, Mother’s Day is a great opportunity for the whole family to come together for a great environmental cause to support the Kent Year of Green Action and that coffee afterwards (in a reusable cup of course) will be extra welcome.
If an organised event is more up your street, then you are well catered for! After all, it’s nice to turn up and take part where someone has done the hard work already and there are often additional treats at the end for Mum. Head to Red House in Bexleyheath and have a family picnic in the beautiful spring gardens. Children can create a potted plant present for Mum and the activity can go towards the National trust 50 things to do before you’re 11 and ¾ activities.
Not to be missed is a visit to Ightam Mote near Sevenoaks. Enjoy a tour of the house where children can pop into the Squire’s Room to make Mum a present. Enjoy a delicious cream tea in the café then head out onto one of the fabulous self-guided walking trails around the estate – the views are fabulous. Afterwards, Mum can relax and enjoy a touch of luxury with a hand massage in the shop.
Finally, if Mum is feeling extra active this Mother’s Day she may well enjoy a walk to The Tally Ho with the Westerham Ramblers. Comprising of a 7 mile walk with some great views from the North Downs Way, the walk has a half way stop for refreshments too.
Whatever your Mum enjoys doing, exploring Kent this Mother’s Day will bring a smile to her face, and to your bank account in the process!
