In collaboration with Kent Ramblers, we have helped develop a walking map for the parish of Seal. This map is located on the parish board and highlights local routes, landscapes and points of interest to help residents and visitors explore the area on foot. Seal is an ancient parish that predates the Norman Conquest and has a rich local history. Originally known as Sele, it gave its name to Lord Saye and Sele, whose family connections included nearby Knole. The parish is also associated with Wildernesse House, which was owned by successive Lords Camden before the estate was divided in the early twentieth century.
Much of the parish lies along the Greensand Ridge, home to the Greensand Way, a long-distance walking route stretching across Kent. The villages of Godden Green and One Tree Hill provide excellent starting points for exploring the surrounding countryside, with opportunities to visit notable local landmarks including Knole Park and Ightham Mote. The parish’s network of public rights of way allows walkers to enjoy woodlands, farmland and some of west Kent’s most attractive landscapes.
