Starting in the quiet village of Shepherdswell this 9 mile walk follows the North Downs Way and Via Francigena winding through the picturesque Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Via Francigena is an ancient route from Canterbury to Rome spanning 2,000km and was officially recorded by Archbishop Sergic in 990AD.

Explore St. Andrews Church in Shepherdwell, St. Pancras Church in Coldred and All Saints Church in Waldershare and walk in the footsteps of pilgrims who have been journeying along these paths for thousands of years.

On your route you will pass Waldershare House, a grand Grade 2 listed mansion completed in 1712 and onto All Saints church which was traditionally the estate’s church.

This diverse walk takes you through fields and farmland, down country lanes and even along a Roman road into Dover, where your finish line awaits on Dover Esplanade.
