East Peckham River walk
Along this pleasant walk from East Peckham you’ll pass evidence of Kent’s heritage as the most successful hop farming area in the UK; the Hop Farm hosts the largest group of Victorian Oast Houses in the world.
You’ll cross over the River Bourne as it joins the River Medway along this route. The Bourne was once a productive river and a mill used to exist here on the banks.
The Man of Kent, a 16th century coaching inn, is a reminder of the local tradition that Medway divided the old Kentish kingdoms. Those born on the East side of the river are ‘Men of Kent’ and those born to the west are ‘Kentish Men’.
