Car park temporarily closed.

Blue Bell Hill Picnic Site, located within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, forms part of the 10 kilometre stretch of chalk escarpment between Wouldham and Detling that has been classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It boasts a range of terrain including woodland, scrub and chalk grassland. The site’s car park is popular all day long with people coming to enjoy the views that span the Medway Valley and to take a break at the picnic area. There are a diverse number of rare plant species at the site – bulbous buttercup, salad burnet, hairy violet, meadow velching, false brome grass, bee orchid, wood sage and wild strawberry are all found in the area. The rich plantlife supports a variety of insects, such as dingy skipper; grizzled skipper; chalk hill blue and brown argus butterflies. The North Downs Way passes along the northern edge of the site, giving further opportunities to explore the Downs.
