Vinters Valley Nature Reserve
Once part of a large 18th century estate, Vinters Valley has been transformed by the local community into a 90 acre nature reserve that is a haven for both people and wildlife. Made up of woodland, grassland and scrub along with a lake and stream, an active ‘Friends’ group maintains the park and organises events and fundraising for the upkeep of the reserve.
The reserve can be enjoyed from a network of pathways, with the Bluetit Trail providing an easy 20-minute stroll through a variety of habitats. There’s a platform for feeding the ducks, and benches where you can sit and admire the bird life and some magnificent old trees, set amongst the old walls that once bordered the estate’s gardens.
At the entrance to the reserve from Lodge Road, there’s even a bird feeding station where you can see a wide variety of avian life from the road through an impromptu hide made from cutting viewing windows into the fence, a great example of the fantastic public spirit embodied by the reserve and the friends of Vinters Valley.
