Hollows Wood is part of a much larger area of woodland that once ran continuously from Well Hill to Poll Hill further south, but which is now fragmented by the M25 and its link roads.
Although there is no parking, making access to the woods relatively difficult, the effort of getting here is worth it, however, and the relative isolation of the site adds to its charm, despite the nearby presence of the motorway.
Made up mostly of semi-ancient woodland, Hollows Wood features mainly sweet chestnut interspersed with oak and beech, with some mixed coppice of ash, birch, hazel, willow and alder.
There are also areas have have been planted with conifers such as the scots pine and larch.
The open areas of Hollows Wood are developing, and are in the early stages of becoming scrub woodland.
In spring, parts of the woods are ablaze with flowering drifts, bluebells and wood anenomes.
Easy access information
This park and open space contains uneven trails, un-surfaced or narrow pathways. Also, there are width restricting features, such as stiles and narrow gaps making it difficult for visitors with pushchairs and/or wheelchairs to access some parts of the site.
