Managed by the Woodland Trust, Eagles Wood comprises of 1.1 hectares of mostly maturing sycamore coppice growing on the site of an old chalk quarry. Most of the site was planted out in 1990, although since then it has in part been invaded by buddleia. There are also a few non-native specimens of horse chestnut and tree of heaven to be found here, along the paths that lead through the dense, steeply undulating terrain of the former quarry.
There is a small playground below a chalk escarpment created by quarrying activity, which is well used by children living in the modern residential development which surrounds the site. Also, a small area of lawn next to the playground is ideal for ball games, especially for younger children.
Easy access information
This park and open space contains uneven trails, un-surfaced or narrow pathways. Also, there are width restricting features, such as stiles and narrow gaps making it difficult for visitors with pushchairs and/or wheelchairs to access some parts of the site.
