Clare Park is in the Fant area of Maidstone, just to the west of the town centre. Sir Edward Sharp, founder of Sharp’s Toffees and a benefactor to the town, gave Clare Park to the people of Maidstone in 1923. Named after his wife, a drinking fountain by the main gate commemorates the event. The park is a Green Flag-winning open area with an array of community facilities, including tennis courts, a play area, a multi-use games area for basketball, netball and football, and a bowls green. Tickets for the two hard court tennis courts can be purchased in person at the park on the day, or up to three days beforehand from the park attendant. The park is also home to Clare Park Bowls Club from May until September. You can buy a season ticket, or just turn up and ‘Pay and Play’.
In addition to the park’s sports facilities, the southern end of the site is being converted into a mini nature reserve for younger children, with log piles, nettle zones and compost bins set up to encourage insect and bird life.
Easy access information
This park and open space has well surfaced routes suitable for visitors with pushchairs and/or wheelchairs, and has no width restricting features, such as stiles or non RADAR kissing gates.
