On the Greensand Way: Knole’s Deer and Scenic Weald | Heart of Kent Walking Festival 2026
- 28 Mar 2026
- 10am - 3pm
- £10
- Sevenoaks
This 8.5-mile circular route begins at Sevenoaks Train Station, just a 45-minute train ride from London, making it a perfect option for anyone looking to explore from the city. From there, we’ll head into Knole Park, one of England’s last remaining medieval deer parks and home to herds of wild deer that have roamed here for over 500 years.
We’ll stop outside Knole House, which is a “calendar house” with 365 rooms, 52 staircases, and 7 courtyards; each representing the days, weeks, and months of the year. From here we join the Greensand Way, a long-distance trail that runs across Surrey and Kent with spectacular views over the Weald.
As we walk through ancient woodlands and open parkland, we’ll point out the varied flora of the walk. Depending on weather we may have some early bluebells and wild garlic. If there’s plenty around, we’ll also share some tips on how to forage it sustainably.
Walk Details
We’ll start at Sevenoaks Train Station and head towards Knole Park estate where you will be able to catch your first glimpse of the deers and the impressive house.
From Knole House, we’ll pick up the Greensand Way, a trail that offers fantastic views across the Kentish Weald.
The route loops back through quiet woodland and open path returning to Knole park to view the deers once again. From here we head back to the start point.
