Join us as we walk through the woods, telling tales about the history of the ash tree and the close relationship that our ancestors had with the tree. Along the walk we explore the mythological links our landscapes share with the Vikings, we will talk about the magic of the ash tree through its protective and healing uses. And we will look at the use of ash in tools and weaponry, and how this creates an intimate relationship between the wood and our human histories across Kent. This walk is part of a series of events that charts the social and cultural histories of the ash tree in Kent. The Ash Project is an urgent cultural response to this devastating loss of one of our most important species of tree.
