Olympic Gold Medal winner to promote Ramsgate regeneration initiative.

Active Ramsgate’s newest ambassador is skeleton athlete and Olympic gold medal winner Lizzy Yarnold. The new celebrity ambassador from Sevenoaks in Kent will be helping to promote outdoor activities and encouraging visitors to the area over the next year. Lizzy Yarnold said of her new ambassador role:

“Keeping fit and active is so important and I’m delighted to be supporting such a valuable initiative. Getting out in the fresh air with friends and family and making the most of Thanet’s beautiful coastline and countryside, what could be better?”

The Active Ramsgate initiative, project managed by Explore Kent, is designed to support economic regeneration by promoting the Ramsgate area through its fantastic provision of outdoor activities, such as walking, cycling, canoeing, seal spotting & fishing trips, golf and geocaching trails.

After a huge success in its first year, then an incredible second year bringing in more than £190,000 to the town’s economy, Active Ramsgate’s third year is now in full swing. There are already some fantastic trails to explore in Ramsgate including; Ramsgate to Pegwell Bay, Sea it All – Ramsgate to Broadstairs and Ramsgate Town Rounders showing off the wonderful Royal Harbour town’s best spots! Not to mention the fantastic Viking Coastal Trail and the exciting plans to enhance and extend those throughout 2016, including:

  • Launch of two canoe trails from Ramsgate
  • Themed walking trail from Ramsgate to Margate
  • E-cycle itineraries of the Viking Coastal Trail

We can’t wait to get all the plans underway this year and neither can Lizzy;

“I’ve heard about the activities that are planned for the future and those that are already in place, and they sound great; you can go for a themed walk, cycle part of the Viking Coastal Trail, go on a geocaching treasure hunt, play golf, get out on the water in a canoe or on a seal watching or fishing trip, the list is endless. And to treat yourself afterwards there are some lovely restaurants, bars and cafes all along the waterfront around the Royal Harbour. I urge everyone to visit Ramsgate and get active, I certainly will be!”

Active Ramsgate is an initiative funded by Ramsgate Town Council and led by Explore Kent, delivering a range of inspiring new walks, cycle routes, boat rides and geo-caching trails to capture the imagination of locals and visitors alike. For more information, visit Ramsgate Town’s website and for the latest news check out Ramsgate Town’s Facebook and Twitter.
