Set at the foot of Shakespeare Cliff and just along the coast from busy Dover Harbour, Shakespeare beach is a comparatively peaceful place to visit. Here, you can enjoy a spot of fishing and dogs are sure to enjoy bounding along the shingle beach.

Why the name? The impressive Shakespeare Cliff is said to have inspired a passage from Shakespeare’s King Lear; Shakespeare was a frequent visitor to Dover at the time of writing it.

Easy access information

This park and open space contains uneven trails, un-surfaced or narrow pathways. Also, there are width restricting features, such as stiles and narrow gaps making it difficult for visitors with pushchairs and/or wheelchairs to access some parts of the site.
