Sandwich walk – flights over the fairways

The walk starts as a riverside amble, before peeling away to follow the Saxon Shore Way across the immaculate greens of the Royal St George’s golf course.

The stretch of green lawns soon changes to the open sea at Sandwich Bay and the chance to stop and enjoy a stretch of glorious views.

From the sea, your path traces the sand dunes and salt marshes to open fields and the rich habitats of the Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory Trust Field Centre. While you’re here, look out for the wildfowl, wading birds and overwintering species soaring over the landscape.

Back in Sandwich you can explore the narrow streets, following the ancient town wall to the historic Quay.
